The year so far...

So what’s been happening in the SPH Art and Design department since September?

There have been some changes in the department this term, with the retirement of Mrs. Johnson, the introduction of BTEC Art and Design at year 9 and the GCSE Art Textiles course at year 10.

Mrs. Philip, Mrs. White and I are working hard to raise the profile of art in school and the local Borough, in turn giving you the best possible opportunities in lesson time.

We have displayed a variety of work in the Youth Art Exhibition at Sutton Library and sent numerous entries to the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Fragile Futures Global Canvas competition and struck gold with a winner!
Congratulations Charlotte 8JA, who has won the 11-13 age group. We also have a number of students whose work is being exhibited at the Flett Theatre on the 7th of March 2013, Lewis, Jack, Luiza, Dimitrios and Cameron. A big congratulation, well done SPH!
Keep posted for Mrs Philip’s blog on the visit!

As part of the KS4 art curriculum we try our best to visit as many galleries, exhibitions and places of interest and inspiration as we can. So far this year we have visited The V&A to admire the Ball gowns, the Klein and Moriyama exhibition at the Tate, Kew Gardens, Scola for a master class in darkroom photography and The Woodcote Green Garden Centre. It’s great to see things first hand and gain inspiration and insight into artists and art work.

If you have any ideas or suggestions please come up and visit us Thursday lunchtimes during Art club or comment on our post.

Until next time :)
